As the pandemic drags on, more and more people in our state are facing a food crisis. Food providers expect the crisis to continue for months to come. Over half a million people in Washington have filed for unemployment since March. As a result of COVID-19, the number of people in our state who cannot put food on their table has more than doubled.
We hope you will consider contributing to organizations helping people through this food crisis.
Northwest Harvest
For 15 years In Harmony has collected food from our generous clients for Northwest Harvest. Over that time we have collected more than 20 tons of food! This year we are sad to report that we have put our annual food drive on hold in order to protect our employees from COVID-19.
In place of donating food, we hope you will donate directly to Northwest Harvest. Northwest Harvest freely provides millions of pounds of nutritious food to a broad network of 375 food programs across Washington. Here are a few statistics:
- Two million nutritious meals provided each month
- 2/3 of the food distributed are fruit and vegetables
- More than half the people served are children and seniors
Here are ways to give to Northwest Harvest.
Hopelink
If you would rather focus on the needs of your local community, consider giving to Hopelink. Hopelink provides support for people facing a food crisis or another life crisis who live in north and east King County.
People who turn to Hopelink for help may be hungry, homeless or about to have their utilities shut off. Some may have lost their jobs or had a sudden illness that drained their savings account.
Hopelink provides a broad range of services to people in need, including food, transportation, assistance with housing and shelter, and heat and energy assistance. Once their situation is more stable, Hopelink helps them acquire skills and knowledge that can permanently change their lives.
Here are ways to give to Hopelink.
