Garden d’Lights at Bellevue Botanical Gardens is one of the holiday light shows offered to help you celebrate the season.

The days grow shorter and the nights longer in December, as we approach the winter solstice. It’s a good time to enjoy some holiday light shows and activities. Public gardens and zoos offer a number of options to help escape from the darkness.

Seattle’s Dunn Gardens offers a Winter Spiral Celebration on December 9 and 10 from 5-8 pm. Escape the holiday bustle with lights, a bonfire, warm drinks, a musical performance and a beautiful Celtic Spiral. Leave feeling peaceful and regenerated.

A Bonsai Solstice at Pacific Bonsai Museum is a community favorite. Take an evening stroll on December 17 from 4-8 pm to enjoy the bonsai with soft holiday lights. Then stay to enjoy treats and community.

For nearly 30 years Bellevue Botanical Garden has offered its annual Garden d’Lights show. This year you can see the lights from November 26 through December 31 from 4:30-9 pm. Over half a million sparkling lights formed in the whimsical shapes of plants, birds, animals, and cascading waterfalls are set amid the garden’s natural beauty. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.

Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island offers Winter of Wonder from December 1 through January 3. You will find holiday lights and decor in the gardens and the Residence. This family-friendly event includes handcrafted woodland creatures, an all-ages scavenger hunt and snow people. Solstice walks are scheduled December 19-22. Buy tickets in advance online.

WildLanterns is Woodland Park Zoo‘s annual holiday show. This year the show runs from November 11-January 22 from 4-9 pm. It is an immersive experience featuring large scale animal and naturescape lanterns. representing wild places from around the globe. Buy tickets in advance online.

Each year the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium transforms into a colorful winter wonderland with over 800,000 lights. Zoolights is offered from November 25-January 2 from 4:30-10 pm. Last year Zoolights sold out, so reserve your tickets early.
